Welcome to the 音乐系 at the University of the Incarnate Word. 位于 人文、艺术和社会科学学院, 音乐 department improves musicianship through a curriculum that is designed to nurture the unique musical gifts of each student.
The 校本 音乐 Department is a community of musicians: music therapists, 音乐教育家, 作曲家和表演者. Each is dedicated to supporting students as they strengthen their technique, deepen their talent and expand their musical universe.

Classes tend to be small, which allows for more personalized attention and direct access to faculty.

This program is specially designed for students who want to become 音乐教育家 in a public or a private school system. 学生 choose either a vocal or instrumental focus, and complete a Minor in All-level Education with the goal of passing the Teacher Certification Program (TCP).

Composition is a comprehensive program that marries music writing and performance. After studying classical (art music) throughout the program, 有爵士乐课程作为选修课, students will be prepared to give a public recital of his or her own composition prior to graduation.

The minor 在音乐中 历史 is intended for 音乐 majors and is appropriate preparation for graduate work in musicology and music theory. This minor allows 校本 students to conduct original research in an area that compels them. 研究生s of the program have had their research accepted for presentation at regional conferences of the American 音乐ology Society and the Society for Ethnomusicology.
